Tour of Hope

Ford of Canada has partnered with the Terry Fox Foundation to restore the 1980 Ford Econoline van used by Terry Fox for his 1980 Marathon of Hope.

In 1980, Ford of Canada was one of the first companies to show its support for Terry Fox with the donation of a 1980 Ford Econoline van. The vehicle enabled Terry to travel across the country to raise awareness of and to collect donations for cancer research.

Last year, the Terry Fox Foundation, led by Terry’s brother Darrell Fox, retrieved the vehicle with the hope of restoring it to its original 1980 condition and re-launching it for a cross-Canada tour in support of the Terry Fox Foundation’s initiatives to continue to raise awareness of and funds for cancer research in Terry’s memory.

The van will start it’s Tour of Hope across Canada on May 25th from St. Johns, Newfoundland, visiting 50 communties along the way! You can follow using the interactive map at TourofHope.ca

The first Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research was organized in 1981 in conjunction with the Canadian Cancer Society.  In 1988, the Terry Fox Foundation became an independent trust and has continued to pursue Terry’s dream of finding a cure for cancer. To date date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $360 million dollars for cancer research.
